Disputed American-supported GHF Aid Organization Ends Humanitarian Work

The disputed, United States and Israel-funded GHF aid organization declares it is terminating its aid operations in the Gaza region, after almost six months.

The organisation had previously halted its multiple aid distribution centers in Gaza subsequent to the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel took effect six weeks ago.

The organization attempted to circumvent United Nations channels as the main supplier of relief to Palestinian residents.

International relief agencies would not collaborate with its methodology, claiming it was questionable and hazardous.

Hundreds of Palestinians were lost their lives while trying to acquire nourishment amid turbulent circumstances near the organization's distribution points, mostly by Israeli fire, based on UN documentation.

The Israeli military claimed its troops fired warning shots.

Program Termination

The foundation announced on Monday that it was terminating work now because of the "successful completion of its emergency mission", with a total of three million packages containing the equivalent of more than 187 million meals provided to residents.

The foundation's chief officer, Jon Acree, additionally stated the American-directed Civil-Military Coordination Center - which has been set up to help implement US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan - would be "taking over and developing the system the foundation tested".

"The organization's system, in which Palestinian factions were unable to divert and benefit from humanitarian assistance, was significantly influential in bringing Palestinian factions to negotiations and achieving a ceasefire."

Comments and Positions

Hamas - which denies stealing aid - supported the shutdown of the aid organization, according to reports.

An official from stated GHF should be made responsible for the negative impact it created to Palestinians.

"We call upon all worldwide humanitarian bodies to make certain that consequences are faced after causing the death and injury of thousands of Gazans and covering up the starvation policy implemented by the Israel's administration."

Organization Timeline

The foundation started work in Gaza on May 26th, a week after Israel had partially eased a comprehensive closure on humanitarian and trade shipments to Gaza that persisted for nearly three months and resulted in critical deficits of necessary provisions.

After 90 days, a famine was declared in the Gaza metropolitan area.

The organization's sustenance provision locations in southern and central Gaza were operated by US private security contractors and located inside Israeli military zones.

Humanitarian Concerns

United Nations agencies and their collaborators stated the approach breached the fundamental humanitarian principles of non-partisanship, even-handedness and self-determination, and that guiding distressed residents into militarised zones was inherently unsafe.

United Nations human rights division stated it documented the killing of at least 859 Palestinians seeking food in the area surrounding organization centers between spring and summer months.

Another 514 people were lost their lives close to the courses followed by international humanitarian deliveries, it also mentioned.

The greater part of these people were lost their lives due to the Israeli military, as per the organization's documentation.

Divergent Narratives

The Israeli military claimed its soldiers had fired warning shots at people who approached them in a "threatening" fashion.

The foundation stated there were no shooting events at the distribution centers and accused the UN of using "inaccurate and deceptive" data from the Gazan medical department controlled by militant factions.

Ongoing Situation

The GHF's future had been indefinite since militant groups and the Israeli government approved a ceasefire deal to implement the primary segment of the United States' reconciliation proposal.

It said aid distribution would take place "without interference from the two parties through the United Nations and its agencies, and the Red Crescent, in combination with other international institutions not linked whatsoever" with Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities.

UN spokesperson the international body's communicator said on Monday that the foundation's closure would have "zero effect" on its work "as we never partnered with them".

The spokesperson additionally stated that while increased relief was entering the region since the halt in hostilities began on early October, it was "insufficient to satisfy all requirements" of the 2.1 million residents.
