France has released an urgent warning for its people in Mali to leave as soon as feasible, as Islamist insurgents maintain their restriction of the country.

The France's diplomatic corps advised individuals to leave using commercial flights while they remain available, and to refrain from surface transportation.

Energy Emergency Worsens

A recently imposed gasoline restriction on the West African country, implemented by an al-Qaeda-affiliated organization has overturned everyday activities in the capital, the capital city, and different parts of the enclosed African nation - a former French colony.

France's statement came as the maritime company - the leading international transport corporation - stating it was suspending its operations in Mali, referencing the embargo and deteriorating security.

Jihadist Activities

The militant faction the Islamist alliance has produced the blockage by assaulting fuel trucks on main routes.

The country has restricted maritime borders so every petroleum delivery are brought in by surface transport from neighboring states such as Senegal and Ivory Coast.

Global Reaction

Recently, the US embassy in Bamako announced that support diplomatic workers and their families would depart Mali during the emergency.

It said the fuel disruptions had impacted the power availability and had the "capacity to disturb" the "overall security situation" in "uncertain fashions".

Leadership Background

The West African nation is now led by a military junta led by General Goïta, who initially took control in a military takeover in recent years.

The military council had popular support when it took power, vowing to handle the extended stability issues caused by a independence uprising in the northern region by ethnic Tuaregs, which was then hijacked by Islamist militants.

Foreign Deployment

The United Nations stabilization force and Paris's troops had been stationed in 2013 to deal with the increasing militant activity.

The two have withdrawn since the armed leadership gained power, and the security leadership has hired Russian mercenaries to combat the insecurity.

Nonetheless, the jihadist insurgency has persisted and extensive regions of the northern and eastern territories of the country remain outside government control.
