Shortly afterward, Racing Bulls driver Lawson spoke to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you witness that? I might have... taken their lives"
"I genuinely couldn't process what I was seeing"
"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I arrived at Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two guys sprinting across the track"
"I nearly hit one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"
Safety Concerns Raised
"Clearly there's been a communication breakdown somewhere but I've never encountered that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"
"We cannot comprehend how on a live track safety personnel can be allowed to just run across the track like that. I don't understand the reason, I'm certain we'll get some kind of clarification, but this must never be repeated"
Official Investigation Underway
The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the events
"After an occurrence at turn one, track officials was advised that debris was present on the track at the turning point of that curve" commented the regulatory authority
"During the third lap, safety personnel were informed and put on alert to enter the track and clear the fragments once every vehicle had gone by"
"The moment it was realized that Lawson had made a pit stop, the orders to send marshals were rescinded and a safety warning flag was displayed in that zone"
"We are still investigating what transpired subsequent to that time"
