Flight operations have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were halted due to an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are anticipated to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," the statement added.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the terminal as backlogs are managed.
