Pizza Market Saturation? Domino's Pizza Chief Executive Exits Following Pivot Towards Chicken.

The head of Domino's Pizza Group who suggested the United Kingdom might have reached peak pizza while broadening the franchise into chicken products has been replaced after disagreements with its directors.

Executive Shake-Up

Rennie is departing after a brief tenure in charge, and will be succeeded on an acting basis by the company's chief operating officer, Nicola Frampton, while the pizza giant searches for a permanent CEO.

Rennie, who worked for Domino's for over 20 years, had aimed to redirect the UK's leading pizza food delivery firm towards chicken offerings, commenting earlier this month there was not “massive growth” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He said poultry was the fastest-growing menu item in the world.

Governance Disagreements

Reports indicate that there was disagreement between Rennie and the board over his strategy and business vision, although the company's official statement said he was leaving “as a joint decision”.

Recent Brand Introduction

In the autumn, the chain unveiled its chicken-focused offering – which the former chief referred to as a “significant new phase” for the group – and is trialling it in over 200 locations in the North West region and the province.

While the company is still going to roll it out across its extensive network in 2026 as planned, it considers fried chicken as complementary to its core pizza business.

Board Comment

Ian Bull, the Domino's chairman, stated: “The board believes that there are a range of possibilities to boost expansion and performance improvement in Domino's core business. We are concentrating on identifying the suitable leader to direct the careful implementation of that expansion plan.”

Market Difficulties

Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has millions of users in the UK and Ireland, said transactions declined by one and a half percent in the latest quarter. In August, it cautioned that the takeaway market had “intensified” as it blamed weaker consumer confidence in the run-up to the budget and higher payroll outlays for below-target performance and a 15 percent decline in half-year profits.

Other pizza operators are also experiencing difficulties. Another major chain disclosed the closure of multiple locations a last month, after the business behind its UK venues entered insolvency.

Wellness Efforts

Trying to keep up with market shifts towards balanced diets, the company has rolled out reduced-calorie products, such as its thin-crust selection of bakes below 400 calories as well as vegan and wheat-free options. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 calories. A family cheese pizza has 2,171, while a personal has 909 kcal.

Interim Management

Frampton has been with Domino's since the recent past, and had a background at the betting firm a well-known operator. It is thought that she does not want to assume the top job long-term.

Frampton stated: “We have a number of ongoing growth and efficiency programs that we will be concentrating on implementing at pace.”

Frampton noted these comprised further work on the organization's logistics network and menu innovation, and its rewards program.

Domino's is also in need of a full-time chief financial officer until 16 March, when Andy Andrea joins from the beverage producer a well-known firm. Until then, Richard Snow acts as interim finance chief.
