The Actress Expresses Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Nation Apart
The star has revealed that she no longer feels suitable to speak out countering the Trump government, fearing it could intensify divisive discussions and further divisions throughout the United States.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Explains Lawrence
During a discussion, she reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I felt like I was running around without clear direction. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars do not make a difference whatsoever on electoral choices.”
The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to heighten conflict that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Jennifer Lawrence has admitted freely about voting for both right and leftwing contenders in past elections. Growing up with Republican parents in Kentucky, she supported the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the Democrats and revealing she understood during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was opposing her personal freedoms as a woman.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she remarked that a Trump victory could represent “the end of the world” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “because I believe she’s a strong contender and I know that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard reproductive rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was aligned with most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence celebrities have over the public choices was highlighted by the outcome.
“This upcoming term feels different,” said the actress regarding Trump’s presidency. “Since he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”
Current Projects
The actor is currently promoting Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she plays a young mom who struggles with her mental health in rural Montana. Speaking at a interview session for the project in the film festival, she commented on the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s occurring is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Broader Concerns
She continued by expressing that she was saddened by “the lack of civility in the discussions of American politics currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the kids now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
She sought to redirect anger about the conflict to decision-makers rather than actors and artists. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she advised, which was interpreted as a allusion to the declaration signed by more than 4,000 arts community members to avoid specific industry bodies.
Individual Insights
Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, is receiving praise for her performance in her latest project. While Ramsay has denied the narrative being interpreted as one of post-birth struggles and psychosis, Lawrence said that she connected with parts of her character’s journey after the birth of her youngest child, not long after shooting ended.
“I felt anxiety about my child,” she commented, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was doing. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a treatment called that medicine and I used it for a short period and it really helped.”
Professional Experiences
Lawrence also discussed about the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the project while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she remarked, of being forced to cast off vanity. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
